Many vendors of “Computer Glasses” go to great lengths to overly complicate the technology and benefits offered. Here are some statements from website with my comments added below in bold text!

By improving eye focus, reducing glare/reflective light, conditioning and shifting the color spectrum, and tuning artificial light – GUNNAR’s i-AMP lens technology gives computer users optimal visual performance, prevents digital eye fatigue and protects against computer vision syndrome.
Comment: Relaxing ocular muscles & eye focus requires ADD, glare reduction requires anti-reflective coating, shifting color spectrum by using YELLOW tint does present some color perception problems!’s glasses use anti-reflective coating which gives a light green tint and provide a +.25 diopter ADD.

GUNNAR iONik™ lens tints take artificial light and precisely tune the transmitted spectrum. Especially effective in eliminating high energy wavelengths that are overabundant in harsh fluorescent lights this proprietary lens tint specifically targets the parts of the spectrum that corresponds to the narrow bands of energy emitted by those bulbs.
Comment: YELLOW TINT – best effect on cutting BLUE light aka fluorescent bulbs, but anti-reflective coating does counter a lot of this light and does not have the problem that yellow tint does with color perception! Green tints do filter some blue light and also provide best acuity.

GUNNAR i-Fi multi-stage lens coatings filter transmitted light and protect the lens. The anti-reflective portion cuts glare and distracting extraneous light. A hydrophobic component keeps water spots to a minimum while an oleophobic coating protects from smudging and fingerprints. A final hard coat reduces environmental wear and minimizes scratching.
Comment: Only anti-reflective coating could be said to “filter light”, Hard coat could be useful but hydrophobic coating a bit useless for indoor wear!

Does GUNNAR digital eyewear have optical power?
The i-AMP™ lens technology platform mimics nature by focusing light. Each lens has a base curve and a ocular curve, which provides an off the shelf solution for increased visual performance. Each comes with a custom tuned light transmission profile, optimized focusing power and ergonomic frame geometry
Comment: All lenses have a base curve and an ocular curve! Optimized focusing power may mean a slight add and at least one research study indicated that Gunnar Optics did start out using a plus .5 Diopter ADD and then changed this to a plus .20 add. (if the gunnar lens with a base 8 curve puts the focal center of the lens closer the eye than a flat lens), then this could be the equivalent of a +.25 Diopter ADD on a flatter aspheric lens!

CONCLUSION: Gunnar Optics makes a high quality and fashionable deeply curved lens and frame package at $99.00 a pair. Coating technology may be superior to’s glasses. uses aspheric lenses with a plus .25 Diopter ADD, it is not clear on Gunnars website as to what, if any, corrective power is provided. The Yellow tint of these lenses contrasted with the light green tint on Eyefatigue’s glasses would be another reason that they might not perform as well in actual use as do those from (Color perception poor with yellow tint lenses)
